    What this site is

Cape Town Construction is a Lekker Network introduction site for building work in Cape Town and the Western Cape. You describe the suburb and the job. The enquiry is passed to construction providers on the network who cover that kind of work. Asking is free. Hiring, price, and the building contract sit with you and the provider you choose.

The site is not a single building company with its own crews, and it does not keep a public scoreboard of stars, review counts, or jobs completed. Those numbers are easy to invent and hard for you to check, so they are not published here. If a provider wants to show past work, they can do that when they speak to you.

Renovations, extensions, new builds and waterproofing

Most enquiries fall into four groups. A renovation changes how an existing house works: kitchens, bathrooms, a reconfigured living room, or repairs that have been put off. An extension adds floor area, usually a bedroom, a granny flat, or a bigger living space, and often needs a City of Cape Town plan because the footprint or the structure changes. A new build is a house from the ground up, which normally needs plans, an engineer where the structure demands it, and NHBRC enrolment. Ask the builder for their own registration. This website is not an NHBRC inspector.

Waterproofing is the fourth group, and in Cape Town it is not a side note. The city has a winter-rainfall climate. Roofs, parapets, balconies and basement walls are asked about most from about May to August. On the Atlantic Seaboard and around False Bay, salt air and wind-driven rain punish flat roofs, balcony screeds and steel. Inland, in Durbanville or the southern suburbs, the usual problem is a tiled roof, a leaking valley, or damp at the bottom of an older wall. Say which of those you are looking at. A provider who only does new estates is the wrong person for a Sea Point balcony, and the other way around.

Northern Suburbs, Southern Suburbs, Atlantic Seaboard and the Helderberg

The Northern Suburbs, from Bellville and Parow through Durbanville, Brackenfell and Kraaifontein, are mostly houses: older face-brick along the Voortrekker Road side, and newer estate houses toward Durbanville Hills and the north. Estate boards often want drawings and a finish sample before work starts. That is an extra rule on top of whatever the City of Cape Town requires. It does not replace a plan.

The Southern Suburbs, including Claremont, Rondebosch, Newlands, Kenilworth, Plumstead and Constantia, have a lot of older houses. Claremont mixes Main Road shops and flats with double-storeys and cottages toward Harfield. Rondebosch has family houses and rentals around the university. Constantia has larger plots and older homes where an extension is a different job from fitting a kitchen into a Sea Point flat. Pinelands, a garden city of single-storey houses, comes up when someone wants a careful extension that still fits the street.

The Atlantic Seaboard, from Sea Point and Green Point through Camps Bay to Hout Bay, is steeper, windier and saltier. Sea Point is mostly flats, with balconies, failing waterproofing and ageing blocks. Camps Bay houses sit on slopes above Victoria Road, so access, retaining and salt are part of the brief. Hout Bay is a valley and a harbour: wind, a mix of suburban houses, and sites that can be tight for deliveries.

The Helderberg, especially Somerset West and Strand, is often searched on its own even though it is inside the City of Cape Town. Somerset West has Main Road houses and estates toward Sir Lowry's Pass. Strand has beachfront flats and houses that take the south-easter and winter rain off False Bay. People also ask from Stellenbosch and Paarl. Name the town. A provider either covers it that week or they do not. This site will not pretend every town is covered every day.

What to send with an enquiry

A useful brief is short. Name the suburb, say whether you want a renovation, an extension, a new build, waterproofing, or something else, and describe the house: tile roof or sheet, flat or house, estate or open suburb, and whether plans already exist. Photos of the leak, the wall you want to move, or the slope of the stand help more than adjectives. You do not need a finished specification before anyone can tell you if they work in that area.

If the work changes structure or adds floor area, expect the City of Cape Town to want a plan, and expect some streets in the City Bowl, Bo-Kaap and parts of the southern suburbs to have heritage rules. Whether your erf is affected is a property-level question. This site cannot look that up for you. A provider who prices the job should say what they think needs approval, and you can confirm it with the City before anyone knocks a wall out.

Sandy ground is common on the Cape Flats and around Parklands. Steep, rocky sites are common on the Atlantic Seaboard and in parts of Hout Bay. Those are patterns, not a soil report. A new house or a large extension still needs someone competent to look at that stand.

What we will not tell you

We will not promise an arrival time, a same-day quote, or a star rating. A published score would not tell you whether a builder is right for your house. We will not invent a street address, a licence number, or a count of projects. The BOQ builder on this site is a browser tool for listing quantities and rates. It is a planning aid, not a signed quantity surveyor's bill.

The way to send a job is the Instant Match form. It posts to the Lekker Network with the construction category and this site as the source. WhatsApp 063 899 5643 remains on the page as a secondary contact. If you are a builder who wants leads, the provider pages on the Lekker Network explain the website plans. This page does not promise a volume of work.

    Questions

Is it free to send an enquiry?

Yes. Sending an enquiry on this site is free. You pay a builder only if you decide to hire them, and that agreement is between you and the provider.

Do you publish star ratings or review counts?

No. This site does not show star ratings, review counts, or made-up testimonials. Ask a provider for recent local examples of the kind of work you want.

    How soon will someone reply?

We do not promise a reply time. A provider who covers your suburb and the type of work replies if they can take the enquiry.

Do you have a street address I can visit?

We do not publish a street address or a walk-in office. Use Instant Match. WhatsApp 063 899 5643 is only a secondary contact.

    Who does the building work?

A construction provider on the Lekker Network, not a crew employed by this website. Cape Town Construction passes on the brief. The contract, if you sign one, is with the provider.

Which parts of Cape Town can I ask about?

The site is written for Cape Town and the Western Cape, including the Northern Suburbs, Southern Suburbs, Atlantic Seaboard and the Helderberg. Coverage on a given week depends on which providers are taking work.
